How to Close an Online Demat Account?

Opening an online demat account is an important step for anyone who wants to invest in the stock market or other financial instruments. However, there may be times when you need to close your demat account. This can be for various reasons, including This could be changing your securities business, discontinuing your investments, or simply consolidating your financial accounts. Closing an online demat account involves several important steps and it is important to follow them correctly to avoid any problems or complications. This guide will guide you through the process of closing your online demat account. 

Delete all stocks.

Before initiating the account closure process, ensure that the securities balance in your Demat account is zero. All your holdings should be sold or transferred to another demat account. 

Close all trading accounts.

If you have multiple trading accounts linked to the same demat account, be sure to close them all before proceeding.  3. Contact your broker.

Contact your brokerage firm or Depository Participant (DP) holding a demat account. Inform the other person of your intention to close your account. 

Obtain a termination form.

Your broker or DP will provide you with an account closure form. You can usually request this form by email or in person at our office.  5. Fill out the form.

Please carefully fill out the account closure form and provide all required information. You may be asked to provide information such as account number, registered address, and reason for closure.  6. Attach the required documents.

You may be required to provide supporting documentation with your account closure form. This may include a copy of their PAN card, a copy of the bank statement, and an original of his Demat account passbook if applicable.

Once you have filled out the form and gathered the necessary documents, submit it to your broker or DP office. We recommend that you retain a copy of the submitted documents for your records.  9. Wait for confirmation.

After sending the closure request, the broker or DP starts the validation process. These ensure that there are no pending transactions or balances in your demat account.  10. Settle any outstanding membership fees.

Make sure you have settled all fees with your broker, including annual maintenance fees and other outstanding payments. If the dues are not paid, the closure of the online demat account may be delayed. Check for more on Option.

Confirmation received:

Once your account is verified and all formalities are completed, you will receive confirmation of account closure from your broker or DP.  12. Obtain NOC from DP.

Depending on the broker’s policy, you may also be required to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the depositing participant.

Discard unused materials.
